Colchester Zoo Visit 10/02/2012

A number of students from Gateway Connect visited Colchester Zoo on the last Friday before half term as a special treat. They enjoyed exploring the zoo on their own and looking at all the different types of animals, in particular the Spider Monkey’s proved popular and some of the students found watching them very amusing. They were all extremely well behaved and for those who wanted to bought gifts for family in the Zoo shop.

On Friday the 27th January 2012 a group of students went on a day out to go Ice Skating. We chose Romford ice rink as the location to get our skates on and have some fun. Even though we were all a little clumsy on our feet to begin with by the end of our session most of the students were professionals in training. Not only was this a great day out where everyone had lots of fun, we all got lots of excercise too.

Christmas Meal

We celebrated Christmas with a festive meal at Nana Rose, Lodge Lane, Grays. Both staff and students enjoyed a carvery with all the trimmings, we had Christmas crackers and hats laid out on the tables to enjoy. The students, by the staff were bought a selection box to scoff after dinner. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and the students were all on their best behaviour. We would like to wish all students and parents a Happy New Year and are looking forward to the hectic term we have just started.

Southend Planetarium 13/01/2012

On Friday the 13th of January a selection of students were taken to Southend planetarium. The trip was organised for educational purposes along with a talk in the auditorium which had been specially reserved for just our students. The talk covered the Solar system, the stars and constellations and what is currently visible in the night sky on the day we visited.

Grays Fire Station 9/12/2011

On Friday 9th December a group of students from Gateway Connect visited Grays Fire Station.

During the visit the students had the oppurtunity to have a guided tour of the station by a Fire Person themself.

The students were shown around the fire engine and some were even able to try on the equipment.

The trip was very successful and another group of students will be returning for another visit in the new year.
