Gateway Update
Seems like Easter is just around the corner for everyone, and even though there is only one week left of this term the students seem to be working at a faster speed than others. Year 10s seem to be finally settling down, and Year 11s are completing their Diplomas and helping out in the afternoons by staying a while longer. The staff are all very appreciative of this as it seems to be helping.
In Construction Bradley McCaffrey, Warren Hampshire, Daniel Burr and Aiden Griffin have all completed their BTEC’ Diplomas’ in Construction, Toni Dowman and Sophie Hill have joined Construction and John has no doubt that they will complete their Diplomas quickly.
In IT Users almost all of the Year 11 students who attended the IT class have completed their work to Diploma level. Some of the Year 10s have already made a good start by completing up to four units in some cases.
In Hair and Beauty Shannon Doherty has now completed all her units to a certificate level with Sophie Hill and Toni Dowman not far behind. Having completed most of the hair units we have over the past weeks been concentrating on Beauty and it has to be said there are some real potential beauty therapists among us. After finishing the theory part they quickly took on the practical part.
This week they did a session on make-up and how to achieve different looks, using students and staff as models. Next week it is Nail Art.
They also went to the ExCeL Centre this month, and they all agree that it was an enjoyable trip where they gained lots of information and got themselves a few treats…just what every girl loves!
In Sport and Active Leisure Tony Allen and Steve Walker completed Units, so well done to them. Well done to the year 10s for settling in quickly and managing to stay in the class for most of the lesson to get their work done. This week we used the laptops for them to research information on a sports personality who inspired them, and they were very enthusiastic about it, some even creating PowerPoint’s about the person.
This week Gateway Connect were lucky to have The Scary Guy come and visit us. You can read his article on this web address http://www.gatewayconnect.co.uk/?p=723 . Thank you for all the students and staff who attended.
For you Year 11s your Portfolio Target Deadline is 8th April 2011.
Well done everyone for your hard work and effort!
Thank you,
Vikki
