Weekly Update

Well done to the staff for your hard work again this week.  It is definitely showing in the students work.

Construction students seem to be coming along well They are currently getting their theory completed so they can go outside when the weather improves and begin building their brick walls, bird houses etc.  All the students are looking forward to this.  The highest achiever at present is Jack Eggleton-Clarke.  He has completed almost 7 of the 12 units for his Diploma.  Joint second place are Jack Rix and John White.  Both have completed 6 of the 12 units for their Diplomas.  Joint third places are Steve Walker, Harry Wiseman and Connor Outten.  All have completed 5 of the 12 nits for their Diplomas.

IT Users students are quickly finishing.  5 completed all 13 of their units this week.  Just the final marking needs to be done, but in the meantime they will be moving on to complete either Certificates or Diplomas in other subjects.

Sport and Active Leisure year 10s are slowly completing their units, but are still distracted by each other.  They are getting there bit by bit, and beginning to settle down with each other.  Year 11s were in the class for the first time this week.  They have nearly got a unit completed in just the two hours they had!

Boxing on Friday was good this week but unfortunately the numbers were low.  The students are getting their mats out at the beginning, listening to the tutors instructions and doing the activities asked.  Year 10s you need to start getting out of bed in the morning.  It’s a good session and will go towards your Sport and Active Leisure units.

Gateway Connect have been contacting previous students on Facebook to see what they are up to at the moment, such as in College or Work, what they wish to be doing in the future and what their plans are for this year. We have received numerous replies and so far every is doing well.  Some are attending College and here are some of the courses that they are currently studying:

  • South East Essex College studying Child Care CACHE Level 3.
  • Gateway Sixth Form studying Performing Arts.
  • Beauty Course

Others are working as:

  • Tyre Fitter

Plans for future:

  • Social Worker
  • Work on cars
  • Work with Children with Learning or Physical Disabilities

Well done everyone!

Thank you,
Vikki
